During a recent visit to Advanced Veterinary Care in Newburgh, New York, the students served as "œassistants" and they came dressed appropriately in scrubs and nametags. But the experience was far from typical.
Dr. Rachel St. Vincent and Dr. Joe Impellizere got the kids involved in everything,"€ said teacher, Sandra Martin, emphasizing the 'everything.'€ "They helped with the bloodwork, bandaging and even tried their hand at surgical prep; shaving one dog and helping with the IV line. It really was incredible. I'€™ve never experienced anything like it before. We were even too excited to take a lot of pictures. The students were so into it that we had to call the next day to learn the status of one of the dogs they helped. Fortunately everything went well and the dog was going home that day.
